PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

First of all, my humble VANAKKAM to all our AMMAS and AIYAAS.

Upon my reelection as the President of the Mauritius Tamil Temples Federation for a second consecutive mandate, I would like to acknowledge the TRUST placed in me by the delegates of the Federation and the community at large.

One of the main objectives of the newly constituted office is the realisation of a laudable, well-prepared project: a Socio-Cultural Multipurpose Hall in the compound of the Federation which will be at the disposal of the Tamil Community.

The MTTF will endeavor to maintain unity within the community as well as among the different commmunities and religious groups of our Country despite our cultural and linguistic differences. We shall readily respond to the government's solicitations and actions in this connection.

As a self-respecting community we shall not lose sight of the fact that our rights in various spheres of the nation's activities are safeguarded and promoted according to merits which will ensure harmony within our rainbow nation.

On the cultural side, the MTTF will undertake to promote our THIRUMOURAI, THIROUPPOUGAZ and SAKTHI PAADALGAL in our context and environment. Since our younger generation seeks to live independently, we shall provide such necessary counseling to help our younger couples to a harmonious life.

It has long been felt by all of us that a proper documented history of the Tamil people of this Country needs to see the light of the day. Measures will be undertaken towards the realization of this project

It is our aim to see to it that Tamilians undertaking the AaruPadai Veedu Pilgrimage get the same privileges and facilities as other pilgrims.

We are also making a sustained appeal for the Ayurveda and Other Traditional Medicines Act to be amended to include Siddha Medicine. One of the most ancient medicinal practices of South India alongside Ayurveda and Unani, Siddha Medicine will surely benefit many as it treats the cause of diseases rather than just the symptoms.

Other endeavours include securing additional scholarships earmarked for Tamil students, Radio and Television news bulletin in Tamil Language as well as the exemption of VAT and other customs duties on musical instruments purchased from India. We are also making a request to the Government for the bestowal of a plot of land for a recreational centre for elderly people.

As always, we rely on the support and collaboration of our Tamil People in the fulfilment of our aims and objectives for the coming two years.

On a personal note, I reassure the Tamil Community as a whole that I will constantly endeavour to live up to the expectations of the Tamil community, as the President of the Federation.

May Muruga grant His Blessings to one and all.

NANDRI

VANAKKAM.
